Exploiting EDCA for Feedback Channels in Hybrid VLC/WiFi Architectures
2021
In this paper, we consider integrating VLC and WiFi technologies in a scenario in which Light-Emitting-Diodes (LEDs), acting as network access points (APs) for ultra-dense Internet of Things applications, are deployed into an indoor lighting infrastructure. In such a scenario, RF-links can be exploited for complementing VLC-links in dealing with mobility and bidirectional communications, which can be problematic due to the limited coverage areas and self-generated interference of VLC APs. In particular, we consider the possibility of supporting a technology-based duplexing scheme, in which downlink and uplink transmissions are performed by means, respectively, of VLC and WiFi interfaces int…
Broadband Internet Access via Multi-Hop Wireless Mesh Networks: Design, Protocol and Experiments
2010
Published version of an article from the journal: Wireless Personal Communications. The original publication is available at Spingerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11277-009-9907-9 While bandwidth for Internet access in urban areas is steadily increasing in recent years, many rural areas are still suffering from the effect of the digital divide. This paper presents a broadband Internet access paradigm developed in the context of the ADHOCSYS project, which was financed by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Program Information and Society Technologies, within the strategic objective of Broadband for All. Aiming at providing reliable Internet access in rural and mountainous regi…
Multicast TV over WLAN in a University Campus Network
2009
One of the multimedia services offered by the campus network of the Polytechnic University of Valencia is TV over IP. This service works well in the devices connected directly to the wired network but we have detected some problems when the receivers access to the campus network through wireless IEEE 802.11, especially when devices roam across the Campus. In this paper we propose and evaluate a server-based solution to minimize the packet loss and reduce the lack of service when the mobile devices roam from an Access Point to another Access Point in the wireless network. This solution uses a location system to modify the behaviour of standard multicasting protocols in order to get a near-se…
